Probably the single most influential mythology is that handed down by the Greeks and Romans. The Greeks had a profound sense of both humanity and of story. The stories they wrote down about their heroes and their gods had powerful, lasting themes. In fact, we keep re-telling those same stories even today. These stories are the building blocks for the rest of the course, and for a lot of modern movies, songs, and references. This is the important stuff.

There are a lot of readings in this section, and the homework sheets ask questions directly about the myths. It may seem like a lot to read, but it's important! Also, don't miss the extra credit available here. It's completely optional, but you may want to take advantage of it!
